Le Booker Prize récompense, depuis 1969, un roman publié en Angleterre ou en Irlande. Il est traditionnellement annoncé à l'automne. Margaret Atwood (2000 et 2019) et J. M. Coetzee (1999 et 1983) sont les seuls à avoir été récompensés deux fois. Certains lauréats ont aussi reçu le prix Nobel : J. M. Coetzee, Kazuo Ishiguro, V. S. Naipaul, Nadine Gordimer et William Golding. Enfin, Salman Rusdhie a été récompensé du Best of Booker Prize pour "Les enfants de minuit".
